Overview of Crimping
Crimping is a combination of perforating and embossing. The crimping wheel (Stahl ZD.273-918-01-00) presses several layers of paper together, creating a slight mechanical bond between them. This is done using a 2 mm (0.079 in) wide-toothed wheel (not a blade) running in two counter-wheels (slitting wheels). The various layers of paper stick together thus joining the sheets.
Crimping is used in particular for finishing concertina-folded sheets on the saddle stitcher.
