Overview of trimming/slitting/cutting blades

Trimming blades for trim cut, edge trimming and strip trimming are used to separate multiple-up folded sheets with a single cut. The trimming blade acts against a slitting wheel. A double circular knife attachment should be used for thick products. The cutting principle is similar to a pair of scissors, i.e. trimming blade against trimming blade.

Depending on the product requirements, multiple-ups can be separated using a rotating trim cut in the folder. Both the paper grade and the thickness of the folded sheet affect the trimming quality. In other words, the thicker the sheet the harder it is to achieve optimal trimming.

With sequential timed trimming, the trimming blade is complemented by a timed perforating head. This arrangement allows different trimming lengths in the folded or mailing product.

Edge trimming attachments could be used to trim the head and foot of one-up folded sheets inline in the folder. However, accurate trimming and problem-free removal of trimmings are only ensured if the trimming width is atleast 6 mm (0.23 in) and the conveying function of the guide rollers works properly. With thicker products, the double circular knife attachment can also be used for edge trimming. This trimming method is used in particular for adhesive folding, for example with glued brochures.

Strip trimming attachments work with two parallel blades and trim strips from multiple-ups, mainly from parallel-folded sheets. Strip widths of between 5 and 15 mm (0.20 and 0.59 in) can be trimmed, in special circumstancesup to 24 mm (0.94 in). A special tool is used between the two blades which removes the strips of paper downwards out of the working area. If there are large amounts of trimmings, mobile or stationary extraction devices should be used to ensure production is not disrupted.

Examples of circular trimming blade arrangements: a) trim cut against multiple die; b) trim cut against single die; c) edge trimming on the right and left after the parallel fold; d) strip trimming after the parallel fold; e) parting cut with dual circular cutter, also used to trim edges

Other Information

Blade materials
This Stahl blade is made of standard steel (ss). Depending on your application, you can save cost, improve quality of cut, reduce interval between sharpening, as well as downtime of your machine by purchasing a blade made of a higher grade metal alloy. We offer blades made of three classes of metal alloys: standard tool steel (SS), high speed steel (HSS) and tungsten carbide (TC).

Packaging and shipment:
These blades ship from the EU (European Union).
